1Question: What is the Marion County Healthcare Foundation?
The foundation was established from the proceeds acquired when the Marion County Medical Center was sold. The foundation manages and invests the charitable funds and uses the interest to aid, support and improve the quality of life in Marion County via grants and scholarships to deserving individuals and organizations.
2Question: How does the Foundation benefit our community?
We are a catalyst that links community leaders and organizations to tackle key issues. We award grants to nonprofit organizations in our region and work with educational institutions to determine scholarship and educational needs in the community.
3Question: Who governs the Foundation?
A 13-member Board of Directors governs us and approves all grant and scholarship distributions from funds. Board members are chosen for their leadership, experience and knowledge of their community and its charitable needs. Current members include: • Bruce I. Siegal • Johnny R. 4Question: How are the foundation’s assets invested?
Financial institutions and investment firms for long-term performance invest the foundation's assets. The Board of Directors sets investment policies and monitors performance with help from the Investment Committee and investment advisers. An independent accounting firm audits the accounts annually. Organizations financials (IRS for 990) are posted on the Foundation's website.
5Question: How do Foundation funds work?
The foundation's funds are invested in a diverse portfolio to try and maximize return and sustainability. Growth of those funds (dividends, interest, and fund growth) provides resources to provide grants to nonprofits or institutions for the benefit of Marion County and its citizens. A portion of those funds are also used to provide college scholarships to graduates of Marion County High Schools.

The foundation serves Marion County South Carolina and the immediate surrounding communities.

To improve the quality of life in Marion County through inspired philanthropy, grants and innovative community programs. To aid, support, manage, conduct and provide healthcare services, promote health and wellness and improve the quality of life in Marion County and surrounding communities.
8Question: How do I apply for funding
All requests for funding must be made through the Foundation's grant management platform. Applicants can click here https://www.grantinterface.com/Home/Logon?urlkey=mchf to set up their account. Once set up, applicants can apply for any available grant on the system. 10Question: What are the criteria for selecting grant recipients?
The foundation board looks for strong nonprofits with projects and programs that are likely to strengthen the community beyond the requested period of funding. The priority areas for funding are Healthcare, Education, and Economic Development.
11Question: How will my organization be notified as to whether it received grant funding or not?
One of our staff members will call you within a few days after grant decisions are made. You will also receive an official letter in the mail.
